Of Lent and Perseverance - 12.7.14 & 2.22.15

Waiting, waiting, walking
Through the fog of the season between-
Between Christmas and Easter
Between birth and rebirth
Between looking back and looking forward...

Waiting through the gray cold of hidden preparation
Our souls hibernating
Our bodies sleepwalking,
Waiting for that day when the Spirit
Enters this stale air and
Makes it come alive,
When sun melds with breeze and
Turns it warm and living,
When Holy Spirit blows the wind of hope
To wake us
To thaw the world,
When our hearts pump sunlight
Through frosted veins.

You gave us life
We laid it down for you
We wait
Now raise the dead.

Part VI

The sun smiles on your shoulders;
Eager the sand captures your passing.

You are the moon's favorite -
He sends down a path for you;
The waters gently clasp your feet.

Gentle and fearsome,
Full of untold story,
Release your waiting light -
Speak yourself to my life.

5.18.14

The smells of earth, air, and water combine -

     Here comes the rain.

Here it arpeggio-drops
          along my path.
The first few drips, I see them,
          but blink
As they tap my face, surprise me.
Their mother-cloud sails
          far above me as
These raindrops multiply,
          and   divide   the   sky -
They are static
Beautifully interrupting my space.
Liquid crystals shattering
          upon reaching air's boundaries.
Their multi-layered music compels
          my breath to slow,
          my heart to rest.
And now I'll soak in it,
And soak it all in.

Tekton - 11.20,21.13

You move                  You build

You carve                  You breathe

You choose these cold stones,
Sweat and groan as You bear them,
Dream of what You will make them.

Your Word, Your Heart, Your Hand the tool -
Dress naked stone through unparalleled vision,
Unhurried in holy process,
For in Your Presence is naught constrained by time.

Part V

Touch my mouth
          with your
Gentle fire-hands.
Stand close -
Dissolve the space between
          us with
Your presence.
This rain streams down
          your skin
               but
Your body
          is warm
               against mine.

Cliché

Degrading the sacred to silly,
Worse than bland, a hundred descents
Uglier than mediocre. You are
The nemesis of beauty,
Veiling crisp clarity.

Revolting! the stench of your perfume -
Repugnant attempt to mask
Your rot and decay.
Facade of sympathy and wisdom,
Poisoning our wounds,
Mocking our passion.

We the Susceptible, the Gullible...
The Lazy.
Building and travelling your roads,
On which we then succumb to sleep.

Only Hope can wake us to fight you.

8.25,26.13

Deep, long, these notes that
Resound through and beyond all time.
Can you hear it?
The chords, the cords,
Binding all the suns,
Weaving all that is -
No molecule untouched by its waves...
Pulsing sound waves
Igniting what wasn't.
Life bursts forth -
Explosions in the void.
Oratorio unparalleled,
Its energy generating light.
Music of terrifying beauty -
Sound so strong it could
Tear apart the universe,
Reverberating through souls in
Awesome gentleness.
Polyphony of all creation
Now singing back to
This richest of all noises.
My ears are deaf no more
To this, my Father's Voice.

Part IV

My distant invader,
Your skin the intoxicant.
Mere knowledge of
Your existence sends emotion
     Through my veins.
Your hands are fire,
And I long for your touch -
     Warm... burning.
Your voice is water,
With its beauty and gentleness -
     Refreshing... and powerful.
Your body is solid and here,
But your movement is wind.
And even in your presence
I wonder where you are.

7.30.13

How gentle and quiet this power, how peaceful!
                                        Stronger than anything.
What is this? The greatest,
Most moving of all songs -
Not raucous, not loud this sound.
                                        Stronger than anything.
And how can this great light,
                    So full, brightest of all,
Take blind eyes and open them,
                    Blind them to see
                              Only You, everywhere,
                                        Stronger than anything.

6.26.13

You.
Spoken. Hidden. Hurt. Trying.
Perceptions, hope, eyes.
Time-constrained
Breathing, moving,
Soulbeat.

You.
You are outside of Me.
You are not Me.
But through the occurrence of
Communicating the opposite
Is discovered.
Pushing, pulling to move reality;
Striving to get
Needs met.
We the unseeing,
Unwilling
To accept the spoken invisible -
The sole healing... The soul healing.
"I can do it myself;
I have to and I will"-
Our voices lost in the wind,
                                 In the noise,
                                           In the void...
But we need not fear capsizing,
For already we are sunk.
And only the Breath who first breathed us alive
Can again fill our lungs and
Rebirth Us.
